An Important Announcement Regarding CYC 2020
| Dear Friends, We know you are all wondering what is happening with CYC this year. Recently, in response to a variety of factors centered on the Covid-19 pandemic, the Planning Committee decided to offer CYC 2020 Online! Plans are in the works for a variety of digital experiences this summer, and for two or three weekend events between now and CYC 2021. This means that CYC will not be gathering in Ocean Park this summer, a fact that makes our hearts heavy. This isn’t the decision we wanted to make – we want to be with you. But we are open to new possibilities. CYC is not going to be the same, but we firmly believe it will be good. For more than two months, our CYC leadership has been aware of COVID-19 and its potential impact on CYC 2020. Just as you have been doing, we have been watching relevant news, reading reports, monitoring the science, getting updates, talking with Oceanwood, and coming together to pray, share our views, and review various scenarios. Ultimately, it is concern over the virus, your safety, and the impact of State Guidelines on the conference that led to the decision not to hold CYC on-site this summer. This will be the first time in our 105 years that youth conference will not meet in Ocean Park. However, we’ll still be offering inspiring worship, engaging classes, and entertaining activities. Students will be able to simply join in the fun or do that and complete the academic program to pass the year – even to graduate if this is their third year. We’ll have a graduation ceremony during one of the weekends. We are absolutely still going to grow closer to God and to each other. God can work in this and we trust that He will!
